Kristen + Phil // Calgary Westin Wedding // Calgary Wedding Photography

Kristen and Phil had an action-packed Calgary wedding and they did not forget a single detail in treating all their family and friends to a classy and fun-filled day. They began the day with some getting ready photos at the Westin Airport Hotel. From there we headed to Nose Hill for a beautiful first look, followed by some family and bridal party portraits. Complete with family photos with their miniature wiener dog, Doug. Please often ask if we mind if they include pets, we don’t just not mind it, we love it! Plus my volunteer experience with AARCS (Alberta Animal Rescue Crew) mean I have a few tricks up my sleeves to get your pups to look at the camera. Nose Hill was a terrific spot with a variety of options and the weather was perfect. Kristen brought along her grandmother's vintage chair to incorporate into bridal portraits. It's always special to incorporate sentimental items into wedding day photos as it makes for some terrific memories.

After the Nose Hill photos it was time for the ceremony. The ceremony was complete with some amazing live music , which is always such a nice touch. Following the ceremony was a cocktail hour, where Kristen and Phil were able to chat with all of there guests as they had planned for the first look, bridal party and family photos to take place ahead of the ceremony. They were also able to enjoy the timeless and classic black and white photo booth provided by Our Lavish Guests.

Prior to the reception Kristen and Phil enjoyed a first dance in the wonderfully decorated reception hall. The lighting was dramatic and impactful, which really fit with the whole feel of the evening. The meal was delicious and fullowing the that the first dance and parent's dances took centre stage before the dance floor opened up to all of the guests and was packed all night. As the party was taking off Kristen and Phil both changed into their party shoes, and while Phil’s shoes were awesome Kristen’s shoes stole the show - they lit up and changed colour!

Kristen and Phil, your day was amazing! Thank you so much for including us.

Michelle and Chad // Banff Wedding // Calgary Wedding Photographer

Michelle and Chad had a beautiful, romantic and fun wedding day in Banff, AB complete with an incredible Tunnel Mountain Reservoir Ceremony and lively reception at The Cave and Basin.

We had the pleasure of photographing Michelle and Chad’s engagement session last year, and it was one of my favourite engagement sessions to date. The engagement session was in Bragg Creek, where Chad had proposed to Michelle, and they included their dog River (which always wins me over). I will definitely be posting some of my favourite shots from their engagement this winter when the weddings die down.

The loving and inclusive theme was just as evident for the big day! You could feel the love and excitement from the moment we arrived for the "getting ready" photos and River once again was there to celebrate and impressed everyone in attendance as the most loyal and dedicated ring bearer.

The boisterous fun-loving wedding party was having a blast all day and were "all-in" for some shots from the epic Mt. Norquay lookout. The dock at Vermillion Lakes made for the perfect locale for some romantic bridal portraits.

Perched atop the Cave and Basin, the outdoor gazebo, was a terrific backdrop for first and parent dances. The party got officially kicked off when Chad's band played a superb set complete with the inaugural performance of a song Chad had written for Michelle. The party and fun continued from there and well into the night!

Michelle and Chad, thank you for including us in your big day! We had a blast!

Michelle + Jim // Heritage Pointe Wedding // Calgary Wedding Photographer

Michelle and Jim’s beautiful wedding day started with a traditional Chinese Tea Ceremony and ended at Heritage Pointe Golf Course just outside of Calgary for a stunning ceremony and reception. The day was absolutely beautiful.

It was our first time capturing a traditional Chinese Tea Ceremony and it was such an awesome experience to be a part of. We love seeing all the different ways other cultures and people celebrate weddings in their own unique way. My favourite part was that Jim had to do a series of challenges before he could win Michelle including a crazy hard math question (which being a mathematician, of course he nailed it out of the park). Oh and much to the bridesmaids delight he also had to hand over a envelope with money to each bridesmaid before he could even enter the apartment.

We then headed over the Heritage Pointe Golf Course in Dewinton. The course was in terrific shape and the club house balcony provided the perfect backdrop for their ceremony. The ceremony checked all the boxes with laughter, tears, and so much love you could just feel it. We had a sweet ride in golf carts to take us around the course to a number of beautiful locations for bridal portraits. The reception was stunning - the decor was perfection, the cake and macarons were both beautiful and delicious, and the food was amazing.

But perhaps my favourite part of the whole day was Jim and Michelle’s first look. Michelle donned an inflatable unicorn costume to surprise her groom and Jim’s reaction was beyond priceless.

Thank you for including us on your big day, congratulations you two!

Sarah + Nick // Calgary Zoo // Calgary Wedding Photographer

Sarah and Nick picked the Conservatory at the Calgary Zoo for their wedding venue with a stunning outdoor ceremony held in the gardens at the Calgary Zoo and it couldn't have been more perfect.

The gardens at the Calgary Zoo was a beautiful, secluded spot for the ceremony complete with peacocks roaming the ceremony site. The bridesmaids all looked absolutely stunning in yellow dresses and the bright yellow bouquets made for a beautiful pop of colour. The guys all looked so handsome in their grey suits and yellow ties, and my favourite touch was their converse shoes! All the groomsmen had charcoal grey converse and the groom and the ring bearer had bright yellow converse. The ceremony was beautiful and it was lucky the rain held off until the ceremony was done and everyone was heading inside. Nick and Sarah wrote their own vows which had each other and the whole audience laughing out loud. I loved hearing about their love story, knowing they went to school together but it wasn’t until later working together that their romance began.

The Calgary Zoo had some great spots for bridal portraits, the penguin exhibit and the Transalta Rainforest were some of my favourites (we even had a Rock Hopper Penguin checking us out). The reception was so much fun complete with a candy bar, Poutine for midnight snack, and a Live Band. But my Favourite part of the whole night was sneaking out around sunset for some photos in the garden, and playing around with some off camera flash.

Shannon and Dylan // Drumheller/Calgary Wedding Photographer

For Shannon and Dylan, it was love at first sight. Both said that when they first met, they just knew. They got married in Drumheller on a stunning Saturday and the day was beyond beautiful. She was from Ponoka and he was from Medicine Hat, so they decided to get married close to half way and make the travel easy for everyone.

Shannon planned to do a first look with her parents and for Dylan as well, and Horseshoe Canyon was the perfect backdrop for them. I loved the idea of doing the first look with her mom and dad too, it was so sweet to be able to capture her parents seeing her for the first time. We did bridal portraits at Horseshoe Canyon and the Hoodoos, which were so picturesque and unique.

The Badlands Community Facility was a beautiful spot for the ceremony. The big trees and riverside location combined with the love and joy this couple exude made this day something to remember. The reception setup blew us away! It looked amazing with the chandelier, LOVE sign, and uplighting. The day was made even more special as the bride and groom got to share their it with their adorable son, Van. The sister of the groom made a very special slide show and I don't think there was a dry eye in the place when Van's baby pictures came up.

Congratulations Shannon and Dylan, thank you so much for including us on your big day!

Nicole and Damian's Calgary Shawnessy Barn Wedding

Nicole and Damian tied the knot on a chilly June day, the rain made an appearance but that didn’t stop this couple from having a great time and we were beyond thankful for a few breaks in the rain that we could get out and do some photos.

We were booked for a 6 hour package which covered from ceremony all the way to the first dances and into the reception. This is a great option if you are looking to save a little money but still have all the main events covered.

The ceremony was small and intimate with just family and then all the friends came out for the reception. The ceremony was supposed to be outside but with the rain they had to move it in to the Barn which was still beautiful. Nicole and Damian wrote their own vows which had them both tearing up and laughing with each other, I can’t say it enough how much I love when couple’s write their own vows. The awning in front of the barn made if a perfect cover for family photos and then the rain stopped just long enough for us to take some bridal portraits before the reception. The reception was full of fun, joy, and laughter - complete with a synchronized champagne popping and toast. The speeches had everyone laughing, complete with the mother of the bride telling a fun story involving one of Salt-N-Pepa’s popular songs.

Congratulations Nicole and Damian, thank you for trusting us with your big day!

Megan and Matthew's Rustic Calgary Wedding

Megan and Matthew tied the knot over the May long weekend at the Jumping Pound Community Hall. We didn’t get any snow but we did get lots of rain, but the rain didn’t ruin these two lovebirds big day. We were able to sneak outside for a few minutes when the rain let up and were able to gets some creative shots inside.

Matthew is from Scottish heritage and I loved all the Scottish details at the wedding. From the Bagpiper piping in the bride, to paying the piper, sharing a dram, the pinning of the tartan (Megan getting her own sash of the clan tartan) and the tartan table runners. The Jumping Pound Community Hall was the perfect rustic backdrop for a beautiful intimate wedding.

Rachel and Cort's Vintage Heritage Park Calgary Wedding

Rachel and Cort tied the knot at Heritage Park on a chilly May day. The weather may have been cooler than we all expected but that didn’t stop these lovebirds from having a great time on their big day. Rachel and Cort are such a fun and lovable couple, they are such a joy to be around. In fact by the time we were done shooting my face hurt from smiling so hard all day.

Heritage Park was the perfect backdrop for Rachel’s stunning vintage look and we were lucky to have the park pretty much all to ourselves. The ceremony was perfect in Gunn’s Dairy Barn, from the pianist playing while you walked in to the room to the rustic feel of the barn. It was a treat when Cort (who is a musician) wrote a song for his beautiful bride and performed it for the first time in front all of their closest family and friends.

Mike and Damara's Garden Wedding in Trochu Alberta

For 2019 June will be our busiest month, we have a wedding booked almost every weekend - How exciting! Looking forward to all our June weddings made me think of Mike and Damara’s June wedding from last year.

Mike and Damara got married at the Trochu Arboretum and Gardens in Trochu, Alberta which is an adorable hidden gem! If you are ever in the area you should stop by for a visit, and there is even the sweetest cafe there. The location was just stunning and although there was rain in the forecast (And it was pouring our whole drive there) the sun came out the outdoor ceremony was absolutely beautiful. The ceremony was set up on the gazebo and was so romantic, Mike and Damara had wrote their own vows which is always a treat to hear. They had me tearing up one second and laughing the next. The gardens were stunning so we did all the family photos and bridal portraits there, as you can see it was a beautiful backdrop.

They had a family friend taking some photos during the getting ready and reception portions so had booked us for a shorter time. We have different packages to accommodate most brides and grooms needs but we are also able to put together custom quotes. We also take the time to work through your wedding timelines with you so you can just the most bang for your buck and not waste any time.

Lindsay and Dana's Griffith Woods Engagement Session

Lindsay had suggested Griffith Woods to us as a possible location for their engagement session and though we have never shot there we are always game for new locations. We are so happy that she suggested this location it was so beautiful, I can’t believe that we haven’t shot here before!

Dana and Lindsay originally wanted some winter photos, but unfortunately planning a wedding got in the way. We hope they are happy with these early spring photos which will have a nice contrast to their summer wedding photos. We always suggest as a nice option to do your engagement photos in a different season then your wedding as it makes for a nice variety - though we can’t really talk we did our engagement photos almost a year to the day before our wedding!

Dana and Lindsay loved the look of some of our nighttime off camera flash photos so we made sure to get a few after the sun had set. The first shot on this blog that Jared got has to be one of my favourite off camera flash shots yet.

Lindsay looked stunning, I am so impressed she did her own hair and make up. And though it was a bit colder than it looked outside these two were troopers.

Can’t wait for this awesome couple’s Mountain Wedding this summer.

Kaitlyn and Grant's Calgary Mill Street Brew Pub Wedding

Love was brewing as Kaitlyn and Grant tied the knot here in Calgary on a beautiful March day. We had planned out our cold weather indoor locations for photos but as luck would have it, the sun came out and we were able to do all the photos outdoors.

Both the bride and the groom got ready at the terrific Hotel Arts and it worked great as I (Kelsey) could be with the girls getting ready and Jared could head over to help capture the guys getting ready. We then made our way to Lindsay Park, where Kaitlyn and Grant had their first look. We love the chance to capture the emotion of the first look, whether a planned beforehand encounter or the bride coming down the aisle, it is always such a fun and beautiful moment to share with the couple. We took some stunning shots at the park and then headed to East Village for some more bridal portraits.

The intimate ceremony was on the back patio of the Mill Street Brew Pub and it was gorgeous. I can’t believe how great it looked, considering a mere two days before it was still covered in leaves and snow. I loved the wall set up that included Grant’s childhood toy trucks as a great and very fitting personal touch. Everything about the day was beautiful! The locations, venues, decorations, details, weather, dress and of course the couple.

Kristen and Phil's Bragg Creek Engagement Session

We met Kristen and Phil at Bragg Creek Provincial Park for a snowy spring engagement session. Their love for each other was apparent when you saw the way they look at each other. Kristen nailed her outfit choice with a long red dress, which she look stunning in and boy did it pop against the trees and snow. We are super excited for their September Calgary wedding.

Jesse and Kathleen Drumheller Winter Wedding at the Badlands Community Facility

Jesse and Kathleen are from Northern Alberta but their love of Dinosaurs and the beautiful scenery made them decide to have a destination wedding and tie the knot in Drumheller.

The weather was perfect, not too cold but some fresh snow. Kathleen was hoping for snow and she got it, which made for beautiful photos. They had both the ceremony and reception at the Badlands Community Facility, which was just stunning.

The bridesmaids (which included her mother- how sweet!) wore mix match classy black dresses and the groomsmen looked dapper in their black suits with bright blue ties. As huge StarWars fans, these two wanted to get some Light Sabre photos which we were more than happy to set up for them.

Kaitlyn and Josh Emerald Lake Lodge Engagement Session

This cold weather has me reminiscing about Kaitlyn and Josh’s fall engagement session.

Engagement sessions are a great time to use a location you love but that would be too far for the wedding day. Kaitlyn and Josh had spent a romantic weekend away at Emerald Lake Lodge and really wanted to have their engagement photos there, and we were so excited to get the opportunity to capture them.

Canoe rides, mountains, a natural bridge, and Champagne this shoot had it all. This was one of our favourite engagement sessions to date.

Can’t wait for Kaitlyn and Josh’s Wedding this July!
